Experience the Light Gala

The first annual Salt and Light Coalition gala held at the Wintrust Great Banking Hall, August 2, 8PM – 12AM

We are pairing Salt and Light women and youth with top visual Chicago artists as part of our arts entrepreneurship program. Each duo is creating art to be auctioned or experienced at the gala. All proceeds gathered from ticket sales and auctioned art pieces will support participants in our 3 program initiatives

Each year, in Chicago alone, over 25,000 women and girls fall prey to trafficking. That's two women every hour of every day. One-third of these women are under the age of fifteen, and sixty-two percent are under the age of eighteen

We manifest sustainable change by employing 3 initiatives that tackle both, the root cause and aftermath of modern day slavery: EDUCATE, EMPOWER, and HEAL. Through our EDUCATE initiative, we are opening schools to educate at-risk youth in countries that are sources for traffickers. We opened our first school in March of 2018 in Myanmar. Our goal is to open 10 schools in 10 years. EMPOWER shares the same anti-trafficking curriculum domestically in a more compact Summer program. Our HEAL Program provides job training for survivors with a component of body/ mind restoration. After completing this yearlong program, 88% of participants are able to secure and maintain jobs, and their anxiety and depression scores drop drastically.

On August 2nd, 2019 Salt and Light Coalition is having its first gala to raise funds to support their HEAL, EMPOWER, and EDUCATE programs. The gala is called Experience the light and it hopes to bring its participants to experience what we do daily at Salt and Light Coalition. Participants were paired with local emerging artists and are creating pieces to be auctioned at the gala. Our Emcee is Zoraida Sambolín from NBC News and Kat V is our violinist and DJ for the night.
